2023 Master Plan Update

We need your help!

The Village of Calumet is in the process of updating the Master Plan for the next 5 years. A Master Plan is a long-range planning document that guides development patterns, regulations, and land use policies over the next decade. When critical issues are presented to Village decision-makers they consult the Master Plan to inform their decision. Therefore, this survey has a profound impact on the future of the Village.

Given the importance of the Master Plan, it is essential to get input from the community on the direction of the plan to ensure that when the Master Plan is completed it is a reflection of the values and wishes of the community.

The following survey about the Master Plan is estimated to take roughly 20 minutes.
Please feel free to share the survey link with everyone in your household, as well as other members of the community. Should you have trouble with the online survey, please contact Village Hall at (906) 337-1713 to request a hard copy.

JOB POSTING—STREET DEPARTMENT ASSISTANT
Reports to: Street Superintendent and Village Manager
Hours: Seasonal Shift
                Summer (April – October): Monday – Friday 6:00am – 2:00pm
                Winter (November – March): Monday – Friday 2:00am – 10:00am
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • At the direction of the Street Superintendent, maintain the streets, sidewalks, alleys, parks and other Village properties and buildings.
  • Operate all equipment—maintain a valid chauffeur’s license and all other licenses required to operate equipment, but a CDL is preferred.
  • Plow streets, parking lots, some alleys, and sidewalks in the winter and ensure that contract snow is removed promptly, grade streets.
  • Some mechanic, cement, carpentry, electrical, painting, and welding work may be involved.
  • In cases of emergency and if the Street Superintendent is not available, the Street Department Assistant will need to coordinate matters pertaining to the emergency to ensure the Village streets and other Village properties are maintained and the situation managed or mitigated to the best of their ability.
  • Attend training seminars and workshops, keep up to date on State requirements including CDL training, MDOT regulations.

ADVERTISEMENT FOR BID
Project: Boiler Replacement
Location: 340 Sixth Street Calumet, MI 49913

Date:    September 20, 2023

Sealed bids will be accepted under seal to the Owner for replacing the steam boiler and related equipment and work at the address above (the "Project").
Owner will receive Bids at the address above, until 2:00 PM local time on the 10th day of November 2023, when they will be publicly opened and recorded.  On or before December 1, 2023 the Bids will be reviewed by the Michigan State Historic Preservation Office and based on this review the successful Bidder will be notified by Owner. Bids not received by the indicated time will not be reviewed.
Project: Remove and replace the existing failed Weil-McLain LGB 9 natural gas fired steam boiler and related peripherals based on a review of the system it will serve which will include the measurement of the existing radiant surfaces and resulting SQFT Steam requirement calculation based thereon.
A Project Description, Instructions to Bidders, and a Bidder Proposal Form may be obtained by contacting Owner, whose contact information is listed above, as pdf documents, at no charge. Bidding Documents are only available to contractors that submit qualifications demonstrating licenses and proficiency in the installation and maintenance of steam boiler systems.
Bidders are required to submit a proposed project schedule with their bid. Submit your Bid on the Bidder Proposal Form provided.
A pre-proposal tour of the project site is required and available by appointment with the Project Manager. Bids are required to be submitted under a condition of irrevocability for a period of thirty (30) days after submission.
This Project is funded in part by a Certified Local Government Grant, CFDA No. 15.904, Contract No. CG23-455 between the MICHIGAN STRATEGIC FUND (the “MSF”) and the VILLAGE OF CALUMET. And will be subject to terms and conditions thereof.
Owner reserves the right to waive irregularities and to accept or reject any or all Bids. 

Calumet Community Day

The Village of Calumet is hosting a Community Day in Agassiz Park, located on 4th Street in the Village of Calumet, on Saturday, September 23rd from noon-4pm to recognize the 100-year anniversary of the park which was dedicated on Community Day held on September 26, 1923.  

Members of Village Council, Planning Commission, Downtown Development Authority and the Historic District Commission will be on hand to answer questions and discuss what each branch of this local government is up to! Park Rangers will have a table dedicated to the history of the park and may give walking tours of the park’s botanical past and gather ideas for the next 100 years.

Attendees are invited to provide input on the upcoming Village of Calumet Master Plan Update, the upcoming Village of Calumet Strategic Plan and share ideas for the next 100 years of Agassiz Park.
This will be an opportunity to meet neighbors, ask questions, express concerns and of course just visit!

Light snacks will be provided, and guests are invited to bring a dish to share!
