Building, Planning & Zoning
The Village Manager is the Zoning Administrator for the Village. The first thing that needs to happen at the start of any development in the Village is to reach out to Village staff early on. The Village tries to take a proactive approach to development, and we have resources that can help you!

ZONING PERMITS
ZONING ORDINANCE
A zoning permit is required for all new construction and changes in use, new driveways, retaining walls, or hard surface walkways on property within the village limits. The zoning permit needs to be completed and forwarded to the Zoning Administrator. The Village of Calumet Zoning Ordinance specifies uses allowed for property within the Village as well as regulating lot size, structure placement, bulk (or density) and the height of structures. Building improvements often require inspection and permits from the Village of Calumet and the Houghton County Building Department. Remember that Calumet Village has zoning in place so you should not just rely on the County Building Department.
