As required by the State of Michigan Recodified Tax Increment Financing Act 57 of 2018, the Village of Calumet Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will hold two annual information sessions at the Village of Calumet Red Jacket Ballroom (340 6th Street, Calumet, MI 49913). The first session will be held on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 10:30AM; the second will be announced at a later date. These meetings will cover the same information.

DDA Chair Nikki L’Esperance will share information about what the DDA is, the DDA annual budget, recent and upcoming DDA projects, and goals for the future. ​

The Village of Calumet is seeking proposals from Certified Grant Administrators for management, environmental review, and administrative services required for implementation of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funded through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA). The project consists of the rehabilitation of approximately sixteen (16) homes, with a projected average budget per home of $20,500.
PROJECT SUMMARY
MSHDA’s CDBG funds are awarded to municipalities to support a range of housing related activities, classified as Reconstruction, Homeowner Rehabilitation, Infrastructure, Rental Rehabilitation, and Manufactured Housing. The Village of Calumet will utilize CDBG funds for activities classified under “Homeowner Rehabilitation.” These activities are meant to preserve affordable owner-occupied housing units through offering low-and-moderate-income homeowners, those making less than 80% of the area median income (AMI), grant funds to address health and safety concerns and maintenance issues. Eligible project costs are the actual costs of rehabilitating housing and soft costs, including but not limited to interior and exterior improvements to meet code requirements, roof repair or replacement, siding, windows, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and insulation.

Hours: 20-24 hours per week
Schedule: Monday–Wednesday, 8:00am – 2:00pm + one evening meeting/month
Pay Range: Hourly, $16.50 - $19.50, depending on experience
Reports To: Village Manager

Position Summary
The Village of Calumet is seeking a highly professional, detail-oriented Village Secretary / Deputy Clerk to support day-to-day municipal operations and serve as a key point of contact for residents, elected officials, and community partners. This position plays a critical administrative role in the Village office and requires discretion, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills.
The Village Secretary / Deputy Clerk serves as the primary Accounts Payable Manager, Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Administrator, and Historic District Commission (HDC) Coordinator, while also assisting with statutory clerk duties and front-office operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative & Front Office
  • Serve as the first point of contact for residents, council members, business owners, and community stakeholders, both in person and by phone/email
  • Maintain a professional, welcoming, and confidential office environment
  • Manage scheduling, correspondence, records, and general office operations
Deputy Clerk Functions
  • Assist with meeting preparation, agendas, packets, minutes, and records retention
  • Post meeting agendas and minutes in accordance with the Open Meetings Act
Accounts Payable & Financial Support
  • Serve as Accounts Payable Manager
  • Maintain accurate financial records and support audits and reporting as needed
  • Ensure compliance with Village policies and internal controls
DDA Administration
  • Act as administrative liaison for the Downtown Development Authority
  • Prepare meeting materials, support grant tracking, reporting, and general administrative compliance
  • Support DDA sponsored events, social media and downtown promotion
Historic District Commission (HDC) Coordination
  • Manage applications, meeting materials, correspondence, and records
  • Act as a professional point of contact for property owners, contractors, and design professionals
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and ethical conduct
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with office software, financial systems, and records management tools
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team environment
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in public administration, accounting, or a related field preferred
  • Prior experience in municipal or non-profit administration, accounting/accounts payable, office management or working with boards strongly preferred

As we continue celebrating Calumet’s 150th anniversary year, we remain committed to hosting events that reflect the strength, history, and spirit of our community. At this time, we feel it is best to pause and revisit this event to ensure it can be delivered at the level our community expects and deserves.
All tickets purchased will be fully refunded. Refunds will be issued automatically through the original method of payment. Please contact the Calumet Theatre box office if you have any questions regarding your refund.
We are exploring a possible summer date and updated format. Additional details will be shared once confirmed.
We sincerely appreciate the support and enthusiasm surrounding this celebration and look forward to gathering together at upcoming 150th anniversary events throughout the year.
