Hiring: Blight Enforcement Officer

Blight Enforcement Officer (part-time): 10-15 hours per week
Pay Rate: $20 per hour
Supervised by:  Village Manager
 
Job Summary
The Blight Enforcement Officer is responsible for investigating and enforcing the Village of Calumet’s ordinances related to blight. The Blight Enforcement Officer will conduct on-site investigations to determine compliance with the blight ordinance, review potential violations, follow established procedures for working with property owners to resolve issues, and maintain related records.  This position will have considerable contact with citizens and must have excellent communication skills.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Patrol the Village to identify code violations at residential, business, and institutional properties.
  • Respond to complaints of potential property code violations.
  • Meet with property owners and/or tenants to review and educate regarding code requirements.
  • Issue warnings, correction notices and citations to ensure code compliance.
  • Follow the established process to help property owners and/or tenants resolve issues.
  • Perform follow-up functions including re-inspections and monitoring status of notices of non-compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case logs of all incidents and investigations by documenting facts using written reports and photographs.
  • Conduct enforcement activities in a fair and consistent manner.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Some experience with digital photography
  • Effective oral and written communications skills
  • Basic understanding of conflict resolution techniques
  • Ability to solve problems and remain flexible in varying situations
  • Good organization skills
 
Physical Demands and Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in a business office setting and regularly works outdoors, walking around the village investigating properties.  The employee may be frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.

Vacant Council Seat

NOTICE: 
The Village of Calumet currently has one (1) vacant Trustee seat on the Village Council. This position is required to be a resident/elector of the Village of Calumet. Applications for the vacant Village Council seat will be due by June 6, 2024. All applications will be reviewed at the work session meeting on June 11 at 6:00pm and the appointment of a new council member will take place during the regular meeting on June 18 at 6:00pm.

Please submit your letter of interest and completed application to the village manager by June 6, 2024, to be considered for the appointed position. This vacant seat has a term through November 2026 and will be on the November 2024 ballot for election.​

Office Closures

NOTICE:
The Village Office will be closed on Monday, May 20, 2024 and will reopen on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 @ 10:00am. The DPW office will be open.

The Village Office and DPW Office will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024 for the Memorial Day Holiday and will reopen Tuesday, May 28, 2024 @ 10:00am.
