Last week the Village of Calumet received the 2023 Governor's Award for Historic Preservation for the Bring Back Calumet initiative. It was super cool to attend the ceremony down in Lansing with the partners in the Bring Back Calumet Task Force, including the Village DDA, Main Street Calumet, Keweenaw Economic Development Alliance, Keweenaw National Historical Park, KNHP Advisory Commission and the Houghton County Land Bank Authority. Our state legislators, Representative Markkanen and Senator McBroom were in attendance and gave encouraging speeches for our group at the ceremony. Calumet is such a special place and it takes a village to keep moving forward with these revitalization efforts. Please watch the below video that the State Historic Preservation Office created for the project!
